10 Surprising Secrets of Early Riser Fitizens – How to Get a Head Start on Your Fitness Goals Every Day!

The key to making it work is to have a strategy, ritual, and reward system. Here are our top 10 secrets to building lasting habits…

1. Prepare the night before.
Have your clothes, food, gym bag, everything completely laid out the night before so you know you can wake up and literally be out the door in 10 minutes.

2. Set multiple alarms. (and play with them!) Set three different alarms and give them motivational titles to get you moving. “Not kidding”, “1 more snooze”, “Seriously. Get. Up”.

3. Drink water first thing. You start to dehydrate when you sleep. Get some fluids on board before you run out the door.

4. Even better add a few drops of lemon. It's a natural detox, and will leave you feeling fresh and energized.

5. Get a little fuel on board, like an apple or banana… A banana, apple or some strawberries is like a healthy shot of sugar to get you going.

6. Turn up the music.
Get that Spotify playlist going as soon as possible!

7. Drink coffee. Supercharge your morning workout with an espresso.

8. Eat a second breakfast. Post-workout is when the real breakfast happens. Protein shakes can geek with muscle recovery after an early a.m. workout. Combine a scoop of vanilla whey protein with water (or coconut water or milk), unsweetened/unsalted almond butter, some frozen strawberries and blueberries, chia seeds, a banana, and ice. Or, try another from the many on our blog.

9. Get to bed early. You can't get a solid workout if you sleep through your alarm or get up feeling super sluggish. If you know what time you need to wake up to squeeze in a workout, and you know you feel best with seven hours of sleep, you should be able to set a bedtime that permits sufficient sleep. So stick to it, even if it means recording your favorite TV show.

10. Practice gratitude. Think of three things you’re grateful for and write them down before starting your day. Starting your day on an incredibly positive note, and reminding you to look for opportunities throughout the day. Check our blog post on practicing gratitude for more details.

That’s it, our 10 tried and trusted secrets of early riser Fitizens, try it for a month and let us know how you get on…
